Girls Rock Radio listeners have been treated to Melanie Bomar's new single "Envy" since the last batch of new music was added. Seems a lot of people are taking notice of this talented new addition to the GRR lineup. This just in from the Bomar news camp...
"We wanted to let everyone know that Melanie Bomar's new music video, "Envy" will be featured on the entertainment news show "Extra" this Saturday, June 20th. The piece is in a segment of the show called "Music Mix" where they highlight a new Bruce Springsteen project, classical singer Farrell Smith from Britain's Got Talent, Grammy winner Dave Zanes, and, of course, Mel. They show some clips from her video, talk about her new album, and even put her web address onscreen, which is great for helping viewers discover the music. Her part of the segment is about 25 seconds long, which is very good for TV time!"
Check listings for showtimes in your area, or consult the Extra "When It's On" station locator.
Haven't seen the "Envy" video yet? Here you go!
Girls Rock Radio listeners have enjoyed Maria Kizirian's music - Retro Man and You Invade My Dreams are on the active playlist here on the station. Well, Maria contacted me to tell me of her cool new website. Of course the even more cool news was that she and her man, Paul, have a recent new addition to their family (Congratulations Maria and Paul!) and it's clear she found that one true love in Paul. I'll let Maria give you the details on her new website in her own words. Then ladies, you'll know what to do next...
Hey ladies do you have a really great guy? If yes, and I HOPE you answered yes, I have just started a new web site where we women can go brag about our guys. Fathers day is just around the corner, so this is one way to publicly show off your awesome man!
Go check out He's More Than A Man (Website no longer available at http://www.hesmorethanaman.com) 🙁
There is a page to post your story, and also link it to your Facebook or MySpace.
The SOLE purpose of this site is to start a groundswell of appreciation for what we have at home. I am sure we will be appreciated by our men as well for this too I know my man felt honored that I appreciate him like this!
I also think that for the single women out there who think that there are no good men left seeing a site of great guys being touted will give them hope that they too dont have to settle with their idiot BFs. We have all been there, done that, so we know! And I believe that for us to become a real woman, we must have experienced a really lame guy.
Pictures of couples whose stories are on the site will be used in the upcoming music video for the theme song, "More Than a Man." (If you so wish, of course!)
So now that you have a more than a man, go visit this site, and brag about your man! I cant wait to read your stories!!!!!!
Maria has written and produced a song of the same name as her site as the anthem for this movement. She calls it "the chick flick of rock ballads." Listen for it on Girls Rock Radio through Father's Day as a reminder to go proclaim your guy More Than A Man!
Lots of new music for June! You can find the complete list on the New Music page. The new mix this month is coming from lots of different sources, and musical periods.
I've been having an awesome time catching up with many of the Indie Artists. The Review Queue has been a continuing source of amazing music. Don't let anyone tell you there's a shortage of talent out there beyond the major label artists. It's just not true! Some of the Indie artists that are new to Girls Rock Radio this month:
Chiwawa Eclectic, multi-personalitied, and awesome!
Jamie Lynn Noon Melodic life insights.
Melanie Bomar A contemporary folk-rock sound with some really catchy hooks.
Pristine Like dancing into a big city dream.
Sarah Fimm - A musically and vocally splendid drifting excursion
The Rose Alarm - Great lyrics, kickin' beat, and serious guitar licks. Energy!
Kylie Edmond is releasing a new single - Mine For The Day. It's almost an exclusive on Girls Rock Radio, so a special shout to Kylie! Congrats on the new release!
Lots of returning Indie and Major Label artists in this latest lineup. And there there was that little trip I took back to the early 90's. Not sure what was up with that, but I got to thinking about a song that I used to love - Pretend We're Dead from L7 - and one thing led to another. Suddenly the likes of Belly, Mazzy Star, and Siouxsie and the Banshees popped up. So now they are on the GRR playlist!
Enjoy all the new music! 🙂
I'm sure you've noticed all the changes occurring here on the website, so I thought I'd just take a moment to highlight a few of them a little more formally.
If you haven't noticed the new stuff going on at girls rock radio dot com, you've not visited in a while and perhaps you're reading this in your rss reader or in an email blast. Come on over and see what's up!
The biggest change is the new front page layout and most notably the new Featured Content Gallery. Through the gallery, I'll be highlighting our featured artists as well as any other major items of interest.
You've also noticed the 2-column format for Artist Bios and News and GRR Station News. Obviously, this is the area to watch for what's new with our artists and the station itself.
Another huge new feature that's maybe not so obvious is that each song we play on Girls Rock Radio now has it's own information page. Currently you can get to these pages by clicking the yellow-highlighted "More cool information..." link on the Now Playing tab while the song is playing. There's a lot of information already on the information pages, but I can continue to improve them by adding even more. You can comment on the song right there on the page, and perhaps over time I can get a rating thing in there so you'll be able to rate the song on a scale of 1 to 10. Let me know what else you'd like to see on these pages. I'm also working to make these pages available from other places on the site.
Drop me a note using the comment form on the Help menu. Let me know what you think or what you want.
Sunshine smitten rocker.
Being an Aussie girl, now living and writing in the fabulous NYC, Kylie Edmond looks to the sun, the beach and all things glorious for inspiration. Originally from sunny Perth, Western Australia, Kylie came to NYC in search of inspiration and adventure. New York has since become her home and muse.
Spending her childhood on white sandy beaches, Kylie wrote her first song at 10. The seed of a passion was planted that would one day become her life.
While she had been writing on and off over the years, it wasn't until a trip to London that Kylie decided to make things happen. Sitting in a hotel room, watching the London rain, Kylie knew it was time to follow her heart and pursue her passions.
Kylie is in the studio recording new songs now with co-writer Griffin and recently performed for the SESAC Writers on the Storm showcase for up and coming talent, and was twice featured as a Spotlight Member with the Songwriters Guild of America. Kylie has played in fabulous NYC venues such as Rockwood Music Hall, Baggot Inn, The Bitter End, Caffe Vivaldi, The Sidewalk Cafe, Banjo Jim's, Parkside Lounge and Waltz-Astoria. In January 2009 she signed with music publishing company Missing Link Music.
So, welcome to Kylie's music. These songs remind many of endless summer days, the beach and sunshine. All rolled in with a little sass.
